Cruise Night One: High School Night

Earlier this month, I went on the Backstreet Boys 2018 cruise, and it was fabulous.

Yep.  I am a huge Backstreet Boys fan.  You may have seen my Backstreet’s Back, Alright! post describing my love for them.  This month I went on my 5th Backstreet Boys cruise.

One of the best things about these Backstreet Boys cruises dressing up for theme nights!  After all the Shopping and Cruise Prepping, I was so excited to wear my costumes on the cruise this year.

Come sail away…

The first day was a busy one.  After boarding, eating lunch, safety procedures, and decorating our door… it was time for the Sail Away Party. On my Instagram, I posted a photo of my sister with her model vibes.  She purchased a similar bikini to the one I got on Amazon.  Hers had a yellow top, but I also love the peach top pictured to the right. These  Women’s Push up Cute Bowknot Bikini High Waist Retro Flower Printing Bottom Two Pieces Swimwear Bathing Suits are so adorable.  I recommend sizing up if you are unsure what size to get.

If you have an upcoming cruise or beach vacation planned, check out this sale starting tomorrow at Macy’s: 25% off beach bags and hats. Shop now at! Valid 5/23 through 5/28

As seen in my Mermaid Lovers, Rejoice blog post, my LuLaRoe King Triton dress was my choice for the Sail Away Party.  I always receive so many compliments on this dress, and it was perfect for sailing away.

This year, the Backstreet Boys dressed as pirates for the Sail Away Party.  They also wore these costumes for the group photo ops.  I loved their costumes.  In the past, they dressed like sailors and captains so this one was definitely a change.

This is where the fun begins…

Bonus points if you got that reference.  On Backstreet Boys cruises, everything livens up at night.  After dinner, we changed into our High School Night costumes before going to fun game show event with the Backstreet Boys.  The game show theme was Double Trouble, and it was a take on the popular 90’s game show Double Dare.  Although we were not chosen to participate, it was a lot of fun to watch.

And I was so excited to be wearing my first costume.  My sister and I decided to go with Harry Potter themed costumes.  I dressed in Slytherin attire, and she dressed in Ravenclaw attire with a 40’s style spin.

Costume details…

This was my favorite costume.  I purchased the skirt with suspenders, socks, and head band from Hot Topic.  Another cute option for hair accessories is this Harry Potter Slytherin Logo Bow from Amazon.  My sister already had a tie for me to wear, but if not, I was looking at this Harry Potter Necktie, Slytherin – Green, also on Amazon.

I wore a button down collared bodysuit that I found online from Macys.  The XOXO Junior’s Cotton Button Down Bodysuit was perfect.  With a bodysuit, you don’t have to worry about the shirt getting untucked, and it was super flattering.  Since this is Junior’s sizing, I would size up if you are in between sizes.

Macy’s is also currently having an amazing sale! Check out the Ultimate Pop-Up Sale! Free Shipping with $49 purchase. Exclusions Apply. Shop now at! Valid 5/21-5/22.

I can’t stop partying, partying…

The deck parties are always so much fun, especially on the first night of the cruise.  Similar to previous years, they had a cocktail hour with free drinks.  They were passing so many drink options: beer, wine, mixed drinks.

Honestly, I can’t even tell you what I drank.  I remember having a glass of white wine and then a few of the mixed drinks, but I am not sure what was in the mixed drinks.  I think they had rum…

The Backstreet Boys also dressed in fun High School themed costumes.  Nick was a nerd.  Brian was a job.  Kevin was… I think a hippie?  Howie looked like a gansta.  AJ was a goth.  Most people went with the clique themed high school looks, but we did see a few other Harry Potter fans.

Now I just need another Harry Potter event to wear my costume again because I loved it so much.  My sister told me that I could always visit her in Orlando and go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Maybe one day when my Disney World annual pass expires.

One of the highlights of the night was the interactions with the Backsteet Boys.  They were up on a stage, but still interacted with the crowd.  My sister handed Howie my phone, and he took several photos with it.  Including this fun “selfie” one.  There are so many reasons why I love Backstreet Boys, but the #1 reason is because they love us in return.

Stay tuned for overviews of each night from the cruise.  Next up will be Comic Con Night!
