I will be flying to Florida tonight for a fun family vacation at Disney World.
In honor of my upcoming Disney vacation, I decided to do a little throwback to the last time we were at Disney. I can’t believe that it’s already been a year! This year will be much different. As I mentioned, I will be flying to Florida tonight. Then I will be going back in two weeks, but that will be for a cruise. However, Layla will be spending a week at Disney with my mom while I am on my cruise. Then at the end of May, we are going back to Disney for more family time and Galactic Nights.
Last year we went to Disney right about this time of year.
As Disney and Star Wars fans, we jumped at the chance to do The Dark Side half-marathon. This will be our third year doing the race. The first thing that we did last year was go to Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast at Cape May Cafe. We met up with my sister and brother-in-law for a delicious buffet character breakfast. We love doing character dining because it is an easy way to meet the characters without having to wait in lines or use fast passes. This breakfast is at Disney’s Beach Club resort. We just went to the resort, let the attendant know that we were there for the breakfast, and went inside. Make sure you make reservations for any character dining meals! In my opinion, they are well worth it!
After breakfast, we went to Magic Kingdom. It was so nice having family there because Darin and I got to go on the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train together while my family watched Layla. Usually, we just take turns going on the big kid rides by ourselves.
Our second day was spent at Hollywood Studios.
It was so much fun going to the Launch Bay area at seeing all the Star Wars characters and displays. This was actually my first time going in there, and I had a bit of a fan girl moment when I met Kylo Ren… even though he was super intimidating!! Layla tried to give him a high five, and he just ignored her. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Kylo Ren. This year we plan on going to Hollywood Studios the day after our race so that we can pose with our medals.
After the Star Wars area, we had lunch at Minnie’s Springtime Dine at Hollywood & Vine. This was another character dining experience, and we did the lunch buffet. We will be going back here on this trip because we enjoyed it so much. One great thing about making dining reservations at certain restaurants is that you can get reserved seating for shows. Eating at Hollywood & Vine gave us reserved seating for Fantasmic. Although the Fantasmic arena is huge and anywhere is a good seat, it was nice to have reserved seating that was front and center.
The Dark Side Half-Marathon…
After spending a couple days just enjoying family time (my younger sister lives in Orlando), we had our half-marathon on that Sunday. You can read about my experience that I wrote as a guest blogger for Nola Nerd Couple: Running: The WDW Second Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon.
Back to Magic Kingdom.
Our last day was spent going back to Magic Kingdom. I wanted to take photos in front of the castle with my race medal. Also, my mom had come in town to be able to spend some time at Disney with us.
For this trip, it will be just Darin, Layla, and I at the Disney parks. We will spend time with my younger sister at her house in Orlando, and we will be going to a water park together on one of the weekend days. I will be seeing more family in May.
Now time to finish packing and get ready to get on that plane to Orlando!
